Blessed Are They That Have Not Seen and Yet Believed
Radio Airdate: November 2004
Good Morning, and welcome to Christian Charity.
Mark 9:17-32
(17) And one of the multitude answered and said, Master, I have brought unto
thee my son, which hath a dumb spirit;
(18) And wheresoever he taketh him, he teareth him: and he foameth, and gnasheth
with his teeth, and pineth away: and I spake to thy disciples that they should
cast him out; and they could not.
(19) He answereth him, and saith, O faithless generation, how long shall I be
with you? how long shall I suffer you? bring him unto me.
(20) And they brought him unto him: and when he saw him, straightway the spirit
tare him; and he fell on the ground, and wallowed foaming.
(21) And he asked his father, How long is it ago since this came unto him? And
he said, Of a child.
(22) And ofttimes it hath cast him into the fire, and into the waters, to
destroy him: but if thou canst do any thing, have compassion on us, and help us.
(23) Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him
that believeth.
(24) And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears,
Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
(25) When Jesus saw that the people came running together, he rebuked the foul
spirit, saying unto him, Thou dumb and deaf spirit, I charge thee, come out of
him, and enter no more into him.
(26) And the spirit cried, and rent him sore, and came out of him: and he was as
one dead; insomuch that many said, He is dead.
(27) But Jesus took him by the hand, and lifted him up; and he arose.
(28) And when he was come into the house, his disciples asked him privately, Why
could not we cast him out?
(29) And he said unto them, This kind can come forth by nothing, but by prayer
and fasting.
(30) And they departed thence, and passed through Galilee; and he would not that
any man should know it.
(31) For he taught his disciples, and said unto them, The Son of man is
delivered into the hands of men, and they shall kill him; and after that he is
killed, he shall rise the third day.
(32) But they understood not that saying, and were afraid to ask him.
Oh the anguish of unbelief and not understanding. We all wrestle with issues of
belief. How often I have identified with the anguished father of girl as he
cried out I believe, help thou mine unbelief. Lets read about Doubting Thomas,
yet we cant be too harsh on him, since many of us also will only believe what
we see. We do tend to believe only what we can see and verify.
John 20:24-29
(24) But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus
came.
(25) The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he
said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put
my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will
not believe.
(26) And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them:
then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace
be unto you.
(27) Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and
reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but
believing.
(28) And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.
(29) Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast
believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed.
Mark 16:9-16
(9) Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first
to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.
(10) And she went and told them that had been with him, as they mourned and
wept.
(11) And they, when they had heard that he was alive, and had been seen of her,
believed not.
(12) After that he appeared in another form unto two of them, as they walked,
and went into the country.
(13) And they went and told it unto the residue: neither believed they them.
(14) Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided
them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them
which had seen him after he was risen.
(15) And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to
every creature.
(16) He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not
shall be damned.
Notice that even the disciples were upbraided for their unbelief, and they had
walked with Jesus for years and heard his teachings straight from his lips.
1 Corinthians 1:17-29
(17) For Christ sent me not to baptize, but to preach the gospel: not with
wisdom of words, lest the cross of Christ should be made of none effect.
(18) For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto
us which are saved it is the power of God.
(19) For it is written, I will destroy the wisdom of the wise, and will bring to
nothing the understanding of the prudent.
(20) Where is the wise? where is the scribe? where is the disputer of this
world? hath not God made foolish the wisdom of this world?
(21) For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it
pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.
(22) For the Jews require a sign, and the Greeks seek after wisdom:
(23) But we preach Christ crucified, unto the Jews a stumblingblock, and unto
the Greeks foolishness;
(24) But unto them which are called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of
God, and the wisdom of God.
(25) Because the foolishness of God is wiser than men; and the weakness of God
is stronger than men.
(26) For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the
flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
(27) But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise;
and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which
are mighty;
(28) And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God
chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
(29) That no flesh should glory in his presence.
Today the world, in its wisdom, would try to deny Gods existence and try to
destroy our countries beliefs. There is an effort to take God out of
everything, under the guise of separation of church and state. A state that is
separate from God is in a sad state indeed. Such wisdom (mans) is certainly
foolish, and deadly.
Romans 1:16-17
(16) For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God
unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the
Greek.
(17) For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it
is written, The just shall live by faith.
It is Gods will to give those that believeth on him everlasting life.
John 6:35-40
(35) And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me
shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.
(36) But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.
(37) All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I
will in no wise cast out.
(38) For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him
that sent me.
(39) And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath
given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.
(40) And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the
Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at
the last day.
And we hope for things unseen, not fleshly things, but spiritual we must be
spiritually minded.
Romans 8:1-39
(1) There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus,
who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
(2) For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the
law of sin and death.
(3) For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God
sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin
in the flesh:
(4) That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not
after the flesh, but after the Spirit.
(5) For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they
that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit.
(6) For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and
peace.
(7) Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the
law of God, neither indeed can be.
(8) So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God.
(9) But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of
God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of
his.
(10) And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is
life because of righteousness.
(11) But if the Spirit of him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you,
he that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by
his Spirit that dwelleth in you.
(12) Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the
flesh.
(13) For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit
do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
(14) For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
(15) For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have
received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
(16) The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children
of God:
(17) And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if
so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.
(18) For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be
compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.
(19) For the earnest expectation of the creature waiteth for the manifestation
of the sons of God.
(20) For the creature was made subject to vanity, not willingly, but by reason
of him who hath subjected the same in hope,
(21) Because the creature itself also shall be delivered from the bondage of
corruption into the glorious liberty of the children of God.
(22) For we know that the whole creation groaneth and travaileth in pain
together until now.
(23) And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the firstfruits of the
Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to
wit, the redemption of our body.
(24) For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man
seeth, why doth he yet hope for?
(25) But if we hope for that we see not, then do we with patience wait for it.
(26) Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we
should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us
with groanings which cannot be uttered.
(27) And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit,
because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
(28) And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God,
to them who are the called according to his purpose.
(29) For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the
image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.
(30) Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called,
them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.
(31) What shall we then say to these things? If God be for us, who can be
against us?
(32) He that spared not his own Son, but delivered him up for us all, how shall
he not with him also freely give us all things?
(33) Who shall lay any thing to the charge of God's elect? It is God that
justifieth.
(34) Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is
risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession
for us.
(35) Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? shall tribulation, or
distress, or persecution, or famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword?
(36) As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are
accounted as sheep for the slaughter.
(37) Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved
us.
(38) For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor
principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
(39) Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us
from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.
How can one increase their faith? Faith comes by hearing the Word of God
Romans 10:8-17
(8) But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy
heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;
(9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe
in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.
(10) For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth
confession is made unto salvation.
(11) For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.
(12) For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord
over all is rich unto all that call upon him.
(13) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.
(14) How then shall they call on him in whom they have not believed? and how
shall they believe in him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear
without a preacher?
(15) And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How
beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad
tidings of good things!
(16) But they have not all obeyed the gospel. For Esaias saith, Lord, who hath
believed our report?
(17) So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.
Another good one to increase faith ask God!
Mark 9:24
(24) And straightway the father of the child cried out, and said with tears,
Lord, I believe; help thou mine unbelief.
And his prayer was answered Amen!
